Sen. Harry Reid has thrown his support behind Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s amendment that would suspend “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” for 18 months.  The amendment could come to vote next week as part of a defense spending bill, but Gillibrand has not officially decided to introduce the measure.  If she does, it will likely strengthen her liberal credentials ahead of her Democratic primary race with Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

Republicans plan to argue that military leaders should weigh in before passing the amendment.
